Do you ever wonder why most people will quit Network Marketing businesses in the first 3 months? Why is it that only the top 3% make 97% of the income earned by each company? Is it because only the SPECIAL or NATURALLY TALENTED people are able to succeed in this industry? If you are just getting started with a Network Marketing business or are considering starting one, It is crucial that you understand the answers to these questions.
There is nothing from your past that determines whether you will be successful or not.
For the most part this is good new. ANYONE, regardless of their background or any skills they may have (or not have) when they get started, is capable of becoming one of the top earners in any company. Does that mean that everyone will be successful? Absolutely Not!
The biggest reason that I see that causes people to fail is most people are not able to stay focused on one thing long enough to make it work. Network Marketers are notorious for constantly looking for that next big thing, or that next big launch to join before the big wave. If you stay in a company long enough you will begin to see people who seem to be pumped up about the company and a few weeks later they are sending you emails about this new company that will bring you in some fast money.
If your goal is to become one of the top 3% in your company, do yourself a favor and stay away from all of the distractions out there. If you have already chosen the right company and you are truly passionate about what that company has to offer, then everything else out there will only keep you from reaching your goals.
This is something that you need to be aware of when you choose a mentor in your business. This may be the person who introduced you into your business or someone else that you look up to. Make sure you choose a mentor that is totally committed to your company. Make sure it is not someone who always seems to have one ear on the ground trying to find the next quick buck. There are some people in the industry who seem to make some money by jumping from one company to the next, bringing their “team” with them. What you need to realize is that this is not a system you will likely be able to duplicate. Unless you have your own “team” of people willing to follow you, you will never make the same kind of money. It will be hard to build up a following when you continue to jump from opportunity to opportunity.
It will not be easy, but it will be well worth it in the end!
What you need to do to reach your goals:
1. Find a company that you LOVE (where you are doing something you would like to do even if you never got paid for it).
2. Commit to that company, for as long as it takes, NO MATTER WHAT!
3. Ignore all of the other companies, opportunities, and launches.
4. Work on acquiring the skills that you need to be successful (communication, marketing, leadership, etc…)
5. Immerse yourself in Personal Development every day.
6. Make sure that everything you do will get you closer to your end goal.

Melissa,
This is a great post and an important one at the beginning of a new year. Everyone wants to try something new, a clean slate to fix everything from last year. And it’s amazing to me how quickly people jump around without giving anything a real chance. That focus is so critical to success. Put the blinders on and charge forward!!

Awesome post Melissa! You’re dead on with your nugget about focus. It’s way to easy to become distracted and get pulled in a thousand different directions.
You’ve got pick your vehicle, build a team, and focus in. Put your head DOWN, and GO!
Another great one Melissa. Keep ‘em coming!

Great Point Melissa. The expectations are skewed from the beginning sometimes. You get 2 and they get 2 and they get 2…
The secret sauce is getting the knowledge and skills of online marketing. Just as you suggest. Anytime someone can get free training they should jump on it…Offering your 8 day bootcamp is a valuable resource…
After you get some knowledge and skills, the next step is to become the teacher…Your opportunity is not what people are looking for…
Match the conversation in the prospects head…”Sounds Great, but could I do this?” “What about training?” “Is someone going to teach me exactly what it takes to succeed?” If you have that knowledge you will go far. If you don’t GO GET IT! Your 8 day bootcamp is a great place to start…

So true Melissa. There are so many opportunities out there and when you are just starting out, you may become bombarded. Great wisdom to stay focused and committed to avoid all the distractions! I know I’ve had my share of temptations to jump into other things, but I am glad I stuck with something I believe in. Great advice you give!

Melissa,
You definitely are right on with this post. So many people just jump at the first thing that comes along and sounds good. Sadly, they get disillusioned, give up and quit. It’s so important to do your due diligence when you are contemplating joining a company. There are so many out there and many are very similar. Look at the company, look at the leaders and as you say if it feels right then get in. And, above all, don’t quit before payday!
Thanks for the inspiration!

@Jodi Lee, Hey Jodi! Thanks for the great comment. I know that I have had to put my blinders on. There were just too many things that were trying to divert my attention and energy that were just not helping me to achieve my goals.
@jean, Hey Jean! Thank you so much for continuing to come back to my blog. It means a lot that you are alway here commenting on my posts. Thanks for the great comment!
@Dave Anderson, Hey Dave! Thank you for another wonderful comment! I think you are awesome! It is obvious that you have mastered the art of focus in your business. You are ROCKIN’ IT!
@Yannick van den Bos, Hey Yannick! What a kind comment. Thank you so much for your wonderful compliment!
@Nick Logan, Hey Nick! Thanks for stopping by! You have added some great tips and some things to think about while I am writing my posts! Thanks for setting such a great example and for sharing your vast knowledge and skills with all of us!
@Jennifer Hart, Hey Jennifer! You have definietly touched on the most important thing in this industry…sticking with something you believe in. If you don’t believe 100% in what you are doing, then you are doing something wrong and will probably never achieve the success you are looking for. I am really glad to hear that you have found the right thing for you and are sticking to it! I wish you tons of success!
@Don Enck, Hey Don! I am really glad you found this post to be inspirational. I love how you say “above all, don’t quit before payday!” They always say that the only way that you can fail in this industry is to quit. That is why distractions are so dangerous. Thanks for adding to the conversation! You always have such great input!
Melissa, I didn’t know where to place this comment so I thought I leave it here.
Thank you for giving Kary Rogney the heads up on the WordPress Thread Comment. It made responding to blog feedback much easier. Funny, I had a thought about such plugin and Voila, it shows up. AWESOME! Thanks for channeling that.
BTW – Awesome emphasis on FOCUS from the above article.

Hey Tone! I’m glad that you I found it just when you needed it. It is something we had been talking about in our Power Hour a few weeks ago and it was bothering me that I couldn’t find one. I searched in the Plugin directory, but everything I found messed up the CommentLuv links. So…I googled it! You gotta love Google.
Thanks for checking out my Blog. I really appreciate your comment!
Great post, Melissa. When I first started in network marketing, I let the person who signed me up convince me to sign up for everything that came along. I was out of a lot of money, and they guy who was supposed to be teaching me how to run a business was the one draining me dry.
You hit the nail on the head about staying in for the long hall and make sure you have a great mentor that is dedicated to the company. I learned my mistake. Everything is so much different now.
Great info Melissa, I know exactly what that’s like. Especially as things sometimes go down hill before they get better and that is when someone is most likely to get distracted with a new opportunity which is their shining new! Little do they realize that if they had just hung things might have taken off. As long as the company is ethical, the product is fantastic and you are passionate and enjoy what your doing then i say stay focused! Thanks for a great post.
Powerful and insightful! I am going to share this with everyone I know. Your message is so clear what we all need to do to be successful.
Melissa …. you’re an angel.
Thanks for your passion to pay it forward.

Thank you Lyn-Dee! You are so sweet! I am so grateful to have met you. You truly inspire me and push me to be and do more!
Hey Jaden! Sorry to hear that you didn’t get off to a smooth start with Network Marketing. I am glad that things have turned around for you. As long as we learn from our mistakes and keep redirecting ourselves down the path toward our goals, we will eventually get there. How fast we reach our goals just depends on how quickly we take the steps in the right direction.
Hey Yamuna! Thanks for the great comment! For some reason when I read the part about people quitting when things start going down hill it makes me think of a roller coaster. In order to get to the fun and exhilarating part, you first have to make it through the climb uphill.
That is my least favorite part of the roller coaster ride. When the ride first starts and you are moving slow and jerky. There is that loud clicking noise as the roller coaster slowly climbs to the first peak. You are sitting at an uncomfortable angle and for a second you hear that voice in your head asking you why you wanted to do this.
It’s funny though, as soon as you reach the top and the fun part begins how quickly you forget about what it took to get there and the doubts that you had during the not so fun part.
I am so excited about having the opportunity to help other people make it to the fun part of this ride!
