What does freedom mean to you?

Since today is the 4th of July, and in the US we are celebrating Independence Day, I thought today would be a good day to think about Freedom.

I am grateful to live in a country where we are considered to be free and I appreciate all of the people who have worked hard, fought, and even given their lives so that we can have the Freedoms that we have in this country.

I believe that there is more to freedom than that though.

There is more to Freedom than what a government or society determines you should have.

Freedom is something that we can all choose on a personal level.  We all have the freedom to choose how we react to our environment and the situations we encounter.

The greatest Freedom in life is experienced when we make the decision to create our best life regardless of what other people think or believe.

Freedom is about allowing yourself to stretch beyond the limits of what has always been and to push the boundaries of what is believed possible.

Freedom is about not holding back and expressing who you truly are.

I would challenge you to close your eyes for a few minutes today and really focus on what Freedom really feels like to you.  Just let the feeling of complete Freedom wash over your whole body.  Pay attention to how it feels and where you feel Freedom the strongest.

After you have tuned in to the feeling of Freedom, ask yourself “What can I do today to experience more Freedom?”

I would love to hear your thoughts!  What does Freedom mean to you?  What do you plan to do today to expand your personal Freedom today?

Thanks for the opportunity to reflect on what freedom really is. For me, my freedom is found in Christ and the grace he provides. Again, thank you!

  2. Great post! I think Freedom for me is mostly about being able to choose. I can choose where to live, what to do for ‘work’ and how to participate in life. So many just go about without consciously making choices about what they want in life and allow their circumstances to dictate these things. We need to proactively CHOOSE our lives!

Thanks for taking the time to comment Kat! I completely agree with you about proactively choosing our lives!

I couldn’t agree more! Freedom runs much deeper than what the government offers (which is limited more & more each day). I have the freedom to go beyond the “norm” and the freedom to be ME!

    Thanks for posting!
