Do you ever get a great idea that gets you all excited, but for some reason life seems to get in the way, and before you know it months have passed and you are still doing exactly what you were doing before the great idea?
This has happened to me more times that I can even begin to count.
I always seem to get the best ideas while I’m in the shower. That probably has a lot to do with the fact that, with two young boys, that is likely the only time that I have an uninterrupted 15 minutes to myself to just let my mind wander. But any way, I’m sure you’ve heard enough about my shower time.
So what can you do the next time you get a great idea to make sure that it doesn’t fade away into the sea of forgotten ideas?
The most important thing you can do is take at least one small step immediately. The longer you wait to start taking action, the less likely you are to bring your idea to life
- Take a few minutes and just write down as many details as you can about your idea. List all of the random thoughts that pop up so that you can get more clear on how you anticipate the idea might take shape. List any questions that come up as you brainstorm.
- Tell someone close to you, or a few people about your idea. This will give you the opportunity to articulate your idea a little more clearly and it will allow you to get some input from another perspective. Maybe they have some ideas on how you can get started, or know someone who might be able to help you.
- Make a list of people who may be able to help you as you are getting started.
- Make a list of people that you already know who could benefit from you idea. And if you really want to get things started, talk to some of those people and see what they think of your idea.
